Real Momma, Real Style

Out of the blue it hit me the other day….my baby isn’t really a baby anymore.

How did I come to this not-so-shocking conclusion? My white pants stayed white all day.

A minor victory in mom land, but exciting none the less. No sticky handprints, to wiped on mystery goo, no shoe scuffs from dangling feet. They started white, they ended white. In my world, that means LJ is getting old.

Shirt: c/o Novae Clothing (COMING THIS WEEK!), Vest: Old Navy, Jeans: Gap, Shoes: c/o Old Navy via Crowdtap, Necklace: c/o Krafty Kash, Watch: Michael Kors

I know white pants seem like a strange thing to measure my kid’s “bigness” off of, but for me it’s a major milestone. One that I’m not so sure I’m excited about.

One thing I am super excited about….Novae Clothing is now carrying plus sizes!!! XL and up, Novae Clothing has new options coming this week! My killer floral shirt will be released this week. Check out Novae Clothing and follow them on Facebook to stay up to date with all the latest styles.

Priorities.

Sometimes life just slaps you in the face and reminds you of what is really important.

Like beach days with the cousins…

Or Uncle Blair’s Senior Day, after 12 years of lacrosse…

This past week, I put my priorities in the right place. Hours spent with family in from out of town. Trips to important games. Endless hours of snuggles, playing in the sandbox, swimming in the pool.

Outfit pictures became non-existent….cause I would have had to be dressed in more than a bathing suit and basketball shorts. Drives to see great grandparents trumped spending time on my hair.

Tee: Gap, Shorts, Old Navy (old), Shoes: TOMS, Watch: Michael Kors, Necklace: c/o Krafty Kash

So please excuse my disappearance over the last few days. With all the craziness of the past few weeks, I decided it was time to refocus and get my priorities in line.

Hey there folks! Sorry to fall off the face of the planet for the last week. Between the big move to the new house (pictures to come, I promise!), and LJ’s 3rd birthday, it’s been slightly insane around here.

Most of my kitchen is still in boxes, but the purple wall of death is gone!

We may have had to move on LJ’s birthday (don’t get me started with that one!), but he loved his little family party and never knew the difference.

LJ and Wesley

So  now that things have settled down just a bit, for the moment, it’s time to jump back into the saddle of real human clothes and share some style :)

Pants: Gap, Sweater/Tee: Old Navy, Scarf: Gift, Shoes: Tory Burch

After spending a week + in nothing but sweats, workout gear, or pajamas, it felt really good to actually put an outfit on and look presentable. It was a great reminder of how much better I feel, how much happier I am, and therefore how much happier everyone around me is, when I look like a human. It’s funny how that works!

Not to mention, it was very exciting to get to walk out of my patio onto this great grass area that runs behind our townhouse and take pictures! SOOOOO convenient!

Expectations.

Throughout every aspect of life we have expectations about how things should go, should be, how we should behave, yada yada.

Like buying our house…..

I expected that the professional parties involved would be, well, professional.
I expected that what they promised would be delivered.
I expected to move this weekend.

That’s the problem with expectations, I often set myself up for disappointment. Sure, people have not done their jobs correctly, errors have been made, delays have been caused, inconveniences have occured. But that’s life.

Instead of looking at the negative, Hubs has an amazing ability to look at the positive, or at least the not so bad. I’m trying to be better at this….

My photoshoot got rained out…or…I got to have fun and take awesome sprinkled on pictures.

Top/Cardigan: Old Navy, Jeans: Gap, Shoes: Target, Watch: Michael Kors, Necklace: c/o Lisa Leonard Designs

We didn’t get to move this weekend…or…we got to take LJ to an awesome little Eggstravaganza where he had the time of his life for a whooping $5.

Then proceeded to sleep for 13 hours.

Sometimes things not living up to my expectations is ok, I just have to learn to roll with it.

It’s funny how life surprises you sometimes. Like my best girlfriend as an adult is the girl I sat next to in chemistry in high school. Or how a guy whose name I barely knew in high school, is one of my husband’s best friends, and now one of mine. The same guy whose name I proceeded to mispronounce for years, is now our agent for this house, “Uncle D” to LJ, and someone who knows me so well he knows when to drag me out.

Like a few nights ago. Hubs was working late….again. LJ and I had been home packing and running around getting paperwork signed all day. It was just one of those days that I really wish Hubs could have come home.

Leave it to “Uncle D” to swoop in. He didn’t really ask, but insisted that LJ and I meet him and some of our friends for dinner. I didn’t really have a choice, and it was perfect.

Blouse: LOFT, Sweater/Jeans: Old Navy, Belt: Target, Watch: Michael Kors, Shoes: G by Guess via TJMaxx

We laughed so hard I almost spit soda all over him….again. LJ was a perfect angel playing his LeapPad. And a BBQ chicken salad never tasted so good.

I’m so glad I finally learned how to say his name right. That I didn’t forget about him until our reunion. That he’s the kind of friend who just knows when to force you out the door for a fun night with friends.

Thanks D, my sanity needed you :)

Today is a special edition of RMRS. My love Nichelle of Vintage Wanna Bee is having surgery today. What a perfect day to send her our well wishes and hopes for a speedy recovery! So today, instead of seeing my silly mug, I thought I’d share some goregeous pictures of Nichelle.

Adorable style, the sweetest heart, and makes a killer necklace or two if I say so myself ;)   I love this girl to pieces and wish I could be there to help her recover today. I have no doubt Nichelle will kick this surgery’s butt and come out the other side with that bright smile on her face.

Good luck Nichelle!

Today I’m home, recovering from a weekend of driving, crafting, Twizzlers Pull ‘N Peel, fashion shoots, and more driving. So while  I’m in bed recovering, and procrastinating packing, here’s a few shots from the crazy day before I left for Arizona.

I was so excited to get my awesome bright green crops from Gap with my birthday money. Once we found out that we got the house, that was the end of the birthday money. So I’m super happy I grabbed these before house inspections and moving boxes sucked up all our funds.

Pants: Gap, Top/Tee: Old Navy, Shoes: Tom’s, Shades: Target, Watch: Michael Kors

I’m so excited to share some great fashions from all the fun girls I met this weekend at Creative Estates. Stay tuned!

Real Momma, Real Style…. 1 Year Later

Here it is folks… 52 weeks of Real Momma, Real Style has landed us here.

I started this little link up as an experiment, to see how many mommas, and non-mommas alike, would join me each week in working on our own style. Style that works for your life, style that pushes you, style that makes you feel beautiful. No popularity contest, no Next Top Model search, just real fashion.

The FIRST RMRS

While fashion may be the medium, it has never been the main target of RMRS. Too often, we women put ourselves last on the priority list, and I was one of the worst offenders. I have worked hard to develop not only RMRS, but the blog as a whole, into a place where women of all sizes, shapes, ages, budgets, locations, and anything else I may have overlooked, can come, be themselves, and feel good that for one moment of one day, we did something solely for ourselves.

While I was thinking about what I wanted to say in this post tonight, I stumbled upon a horrible forum where myself, and some women I call dear friends, are bashed and made fun of for our outfits, poses, what we talk about in our posts, what we don’t talk about, etc. I will not do this forum the dignity of linking to it from here, but if you must see, google Momma Go Round and sadly it comes up on the first page of results.

I’m disgusted to see women turning against each other like some crap that immature high school girls pull. ARE YOU SERIOUS???? I really don’t give a rat’s a** if you don’t like my outfit, or my “sultry eyes” pose, if you don’t enjoy they way my dear friend refers to her kids and husband, or if a fellow blogger has been slacking since she brought a beautiful child into this world.

I’m sorry you failed kindergarten.

I’m PROUD to see gorgeous women like Jeanine come here week after week to show her style. I LOVE to see what amazing outfit Abbie has thrifted each week. I’m MOTIVATED by Hanna sharing her story, her journey, and her daily run. I’m ENCOURAGED by Aubree’s willingness to try anything while teaching our youth everyday.

THIS my friends, is what has a place here. Positivity, encouragement, motivation, pride, love. I know with any measure of success comes the haters, but you have no place here.

One year later, I’ve learned that I still have much work to do. More women to encourage that they matter. More haters to teach the golden rule. More perceptions to change. We are all beautiful, no matter what we wear, what pose we strike, how much spit up is on our shirt, despite chocolate wiped on your pants, or in my case…the bags under my eyes. YOU TRIED, and some days, that’s all that matters.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for putting yourself out there each week. For sharing your accomplishments, your fails, your “go for it” moments. You will always encourage me.

Real Momma, Real Style #51

Do you ever get something stuck in your mind, and you just can’t shake it? For me, it’s been a micro-pleated skirt in a fun bright color. I’ve wanted one for months. I even settled on a gorgeous super sale one from Anthropologie a few months ago, but returned it cause it was pale pink. I don’t want pale pink, I want color!

Skirt: c/o eShakti, Blouse: Old Navy, Tank: Shade Clothing, Shoes: Jessica Simpson, Ring: Charming Charlie, Necklace: JCP

No surprise, my favorite e-tailer eShakti to the rescue! The skirt of my dreams was waiting for me there! The perfect color, the perfect micro-pleats, and the perfect ability to be made just how I want it. Let’s just say I was beyond ecstatic when I found it.

Oh, and it has pockets. Did I mention my obsession with skirts that have pockets? Don’t know why, but they just make me smile :)

This is my third piece from eShakti and I love them all. My dress was made just for me and was the perfect choice for a hot September wedding in Sacramento. The blue and white button-up skirt is such a great classic that I’ll be able to wear it for years. They are all impeccably made, and my favorite, made to my measurements. I even had this skirt made longer to give it a more vintagey look.

Yup, this skirt was definitely worth waiting for!

A random happy accident. One of those things that just puts a smile on your face cause it was totally unexpected, yet just what you needed.

That’s how this outfit came to be. It started nowhere near how it ended up. No mustard top, a skirt, and no tights. Bor.ing.

It felt awesome to stumble upon an outfit I love. It was amazing to get to a little park and find it deserted and glowing in perfect light. It made me smile to knock out great pictures in record time. The whole thing was just a happy accident.

Sweater/Jeans/Blouse: Gap, Tights; Target, Shoes: Jessica Simpson

Sometimes it’s the little things that brighten your day the most :)
