Cheap Trick

We are all trying to stretch our budget these days. Save where we can, cut out things, and just get smarter with our money. Since doing this blog, I like to think I’ve saved us money by learning to use my closet better. I used to get frustrated that I had “nothing to wear”, go out and spend a ton on a whole new batch of clothes, only to feel the same way a few months later.

Now, I’m still buying new things, but they are purposeful purchases. Items I don’t have, need to replace, or that fill a gap. While I’m more mindful of my shopping now, I’m also more mindful of what I have.

One little cheap trick I’ve found is to simply roll my pants.

Please excuse the pictures. We were trapped at home the other day with no car, and the lighting in my complex is about as good as the dressing rooms at Goodwill :P

Far from an Earth shattering revelation, but I’ve found this little trick has saved me from buying both full length and capri versions of pants. Maybe I can get away with this because I’m midget, but if pants are shortened to full length with flats, I can simply cuff them a bit and I have instant capris!

Pants: Old Navy, Sweater/Tank: Gap, Shoes: Guess via TJMaxx, Bag: Steve Madden via TJMaxx, Watch: Michael Kors, Earrings: c/o Chippy Chip Dovey

I’ve found this trick only works with straight or skinny pants, but who wants flared capris anyways?

Not an amazing revelation, but one that saved me enough money to get these killer new shoes and bag….until my momma wouldn’t let me pay. THANKS LIL’ MOMMY!

BTW, I’m DYING over my amazing new bright green bag! It was a steal at TJMaxx, and they had tons of great ones. It’s all about brights for Spring. How you are planning on rocking brights this Spring???

  1. I never would have thought of this and its so simple. I have a closet full of capris and work pants and I could have saved a ton because mostly all of them are straigt legged. Thanks so much for sharing!

I recently figured this one out too! I already had a pair of denim capris and since it was a ridiculously hot day here (it’s summer in Australia) I rolled them up to just under my knee, and wow did they have an amazingly different look.

In saying so, you have inspired me to try this with some lightweight brown pants that I NEVER wear – and if it doesn’t work, I can always donate them (can’t say I didn’t try, right?)

BTW, Nina I have only just found your blog and have to say I love it. Thanks for the tips and photo shoots – you have amazing style and have inspired me to get out of my jeans/shorts/t-shirt rut… and you absolutely know how to ROCK a cardi without looking frumpy – I found the secret in your tips section – make sure it’s not too big!

I love capris, too. I used to wear shorts all the time, but at my age capris look more appropriate.

This is my favorite trick ever. Especially since I’m so tall. If my pants go through the dryer, there’s no hope of wearing them with out rolling them up.

Also, with your post title, I was expecting an I Want you to Want Me reference. ;)

you are brilliant…i need to try this!
