Black and Brown

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always heard that you don’t mix black and brown. Black shoes….black bag. Brown belt….brown pants. That’s just how it goes.

Then I got into this style blogging thing and saw black and brown being mixed all over the place. And the weirdest thing, I liked it. I’ve wanted to try mixing these two for so long, but somehow found purple tights less scary. Go figure!

Top/Pants/Scarf: Old Navy, Boots: Comfortview, Watch: Michael Kors, Belt: Target

I’m rather disappointed that I didn’t wear this outfit like this all day. I had the top untucked and no belt in the morning for preschool and an epic Costco trip. Got home, took one look in the mirror, and hated it. At least I got it right the second time.

I’m still not sold on the colors together, but it could be because I’m not sold on these pants. They are from back before I had baby hips, and I’m not sure I’m in love with how they fit anymore. The book isn’t shut on black and brown together.

Love your blog and your style! I have a problem with black and brown, too. The same problem I had with wearing gold and silver jewelry together…it took a while to get used to.

I felt the same way about black and brown…and then I found this adorable Missoni (for target) sweater with a black, brown, and tan pattern. Now, in my head, the combo is valid – even trendy.
    I like this outfit!

I used to say “black and brown makes me frown” but now I LOVE it too!!! I think the key is to wear a whole outift of neutrals with a small pop of color…and a tan/camel (like your belt) rather than a dark, true brown. :)
