Frumpy. Mumus. Hideous floral prints. Polyester.
Those are the first things that come to my mind when I think of the dreaded plus size department. {cue shrieks of terror!}
When Nordstrom Rack offered to send me on a little shopping trip in their plus size department, I was more than a little skeptical. First, I’m barely standard size, barely plus size, just that awesome marshmallow in the middle of the s’more. Cute and fluffy, but can’t decide if I want to hang out with the chocolate or the graham cracker.
Second, all those terrible images of plus size departments gone horribly wrong were floating through my brain. But it had been YEARS since I’d ventured into a Nordstrom Rack , so I figured what the hay!
With LJ at home, my mom on standby at home, I ventured into the great unknown to create the perfect look for fall.
And the unknown was AWESOME!!!
All my friends were there… Michael, Ann, Kenneth, Eileen. We’re talking REAL DESIGNERS with amazing choices! I was expecting one rack, maybe two, of junk that I might be able to make work. I had no idea I’d run into 9 racks with sizes ranging from 0x to 4x!
I didn’t even know the size 0x existed! I’m so glad it does cause that’s just what I needed! And can you imagine my shock and awe to find this outta control awesome mustard yellow trench by my girl Ann Klein in a 0x on the clearance rack! I mean really, who passed this little chunk of magic up?
Have I mentioned my sheer love for my cream Kenneth Cole lace top? I have been searching everywhere for a lacey top just like this! I never thought I would find one I like, let alone love, and on sale. It was actually the first thing I saw, and I just knew I had to have it.
I did have a harder time with pants. I really needed a 14w, but there was nothing that I loved or that worked well with my outfit. The only pair was by Not Your Daughter’s Jeans, and they were so high-waisted that a bra may have been optional 
I was so happy to find this beautiful pair of Eileen Fisher black organic cotton skinny jeans in a 16w. They fit great through the hips and thighs (hallelujah), but will need to be taken in at the waist for sure.
So, how did I do?
I’d say pretty darn fabulous! I’m so excited to have found the amazing selection at Nordstrom Rack, and to find out that I can get high-end designers in my size, at a price that I can afford!

I honestly can not believe you found plus size at a Rack??!! We have one about an hour from us and the last time I was there was when I was a size 8. I have thought and thought about going back and giving it a try but I kept thinking well the REAL nordstrom doesn’t have that much by way of plus size so why would a Rack. ok, you’ve made up my mind for me. I’d love to win because like you, I’m sorta of a inbetween gal… most “normal” sized clothes don’t fit, but then 1x or the other sizes at plus size stores don’t fit well either, and are usually so ugly! I hate the styles at places like Lane Bryant almost as much as I hate the high school junk they think every fat girl wasn’t to wear from Torrids. I hope that I win this because you’ve given me hope that maybe Nordstrom Rack might have some nice clothes that fit me well and that don’t look like I bought them at a circus!

I’m in desperate need of a pair of boots. Being a 10.5 W it’s hard to find boots that fit right but I always seem to find exactly what I need at the Rack.

I love that trench coat and I cannot believe it was only $31!! What I need for the fall is a pair of skinny jeans or leggings. Ok, I am still thinking about your trench coat.
