Great Fashion Doesn’t Have To Cost A Fortune {Cents of Style Giveaway}

I swear I have a mild form of ADD. Or at least a severe case of “OH! Shiny Object” syndrome.

My new love for fashion only makes that worse. Cute hat, need that. Shiny shoes, of course. I don’t like this necklace anymore, time for a new one! Yeah I’m that bad…in my brain at least. Luckily, conscious smacks me upside the head and puts a lock on my wallet (most of the time).

Dress: Target, Undershirt: Downeast Basics, Ring: Charming Charlie, Bracelet: Momma Go Round (coming soon), Shoes: c/o Cents of Style

While I’m shiny object about all of fashion, I’m the worst when it comes to shoes and accessories. I always seem to be able to rationalize them cause I can think of soooo many outfits I can wear them with. Sound familiar?

To balance between my shiny object impulsiveness, and my sensible wallet pad-locking conscious, I love finding great, less expensive options. And that ladies, is why I love Cents of Style (cents, get it? haha, I know, I’m a geek).

I was nervous when I first chose these velvet peep toes heels cause cheap shoes and I have a sorted past. Too small, too narrow, and just too cheap. Why not just flush my money down the toilet??? Then Cents of Style taught me an important lesson: inexpensive does not have to mean cheap!

At just $26 these heels are a steal, but they are anything but cheap. I kept marveling and how comfortable they were. How they were actually sized correctly. And most importantly for me, how they were wide enough that my pinky wasn’t screaming at me. I LOVE THESE SHOES!!!

Cents of Style offers all of us fashionistas on a budget so many great options, all with free shipping. Yeah, free….amazing!

I’m dying to get The Stacie turquoise bead earrings for only $8.60!

How ridiculously cool are the Indiya oxford flats??? You can’t get this much style for $26 anywhere!

Cents of Style wants to share some fabulous fashion with you! Win a $25 credit to Cents of Style!

Fabric Covered Glasses Case {Tutorial}

So, I have a little secret to confess…. I wear glasses.

Shocking, I know. But, I’ve been hiding it cause I don’t wear them in my pictures. I only got them a few weeks ago, and I still haven’t fully wrapped my brain around the fact that I probably need to be wearing them all the time. Life is kinda nice without stabbing migranes everyday ;)

Since I’m not exactly excited about this turn of events, I thought I would do something to help me like my new glasses a little more.

That’s right, I beautified my glasses case. I saw tons of these cuties at an accessory store that shall remain nameless (cough, CC), for like $15 bucks each. As with my pleated bracelet, I thought I could do better!

SUPPLIES: Glasses case, fabric, scissors, spray adhesive, (optional, fabric glue)

Place your glasses case on your fabric and cut generously around it.

Spray the back of your fabric down with spray adhesive.

Fold over one edge to create a hem.

Line the hem up with the back of the case where the top and bottom pieces meet and press down flat.

Work the fabric toward the front of the case. Pull taughtly and smooth out any wrinkles or creases as you go.

(You will notice the liner of the case has been removed. Hopefully yours isn’t glued down as much as mine was and is replaceable…but I will show you what to do if yours gets distroyed like mine)

Smooth fabric all around until the corners. Pleat the excess fabric in the corner, add more glue, and flatten down. The rounder your case, the more excess fabric you will have….just keep stretching and smoothing, it will get there!

Now if you totally destroyed the inside liner when trying to remove it like I did, you’ll need to line the inside with fabric too. Simply spray down another piece with spray adhesive and work into the sides. I used fabric glue to aid in attaching it to the walls so I didn’t get spray adhesive all over the front of the fabric.

As with the outside, make sure you “hem” your edges so the fabric doesn’t fray.

That’s all there is to it! Well, that and some seriously sticky fingers ;)

Accessory store cost: $15

My cost: using materials I already had (recognize that fabric from this little beauty) FREE!!! I like free :)

Still not sure I like my glasses.

What Does Size Matter?

Like I said yesterday, the greatest thing I’ve learned on this style journey is how to work, and re-work things. Along with that has come a new appreciation of stepping outside my comfort zone, or what I think “my norm” is.

So the other day when Minnie (like the mouse. That’s what LJ calls her….stand next to her and you’ll see why it’s hilarious), LJ and I were venturing through the good ole’ stompin’ grounds of ON, I couldn’t pass up digging through the clearance section that was an extra 50% off. Of course, the sweater I’d been dying for, but wasn’t willing to part with $29.99 for, was now on super sale for only $7. One slight issue…

It’s just a tad large ;)

We all know how amazing the ON sizing is, and how you can always walk in, grab your size, and be sure it will fit perfectly, right?

Yeah, you can stop laughing now. So this little beauty is a XXL. I expected it to be big, but tent like is a bit more like it. So what’s a super cheapo fashionista like me to do….

Make it work!

Thanks Tim, you’re a genius :)

Yes, I will always need to wear a belt or tuck it in somehow, but I l.o.v.e my giant, coraly orange cozy sweater.

Sweater/Belt: Old Navy, Jeans: Gap, Undershirt: Downeast Basics, Shoes: c/o Nordstrom Rack, Bracelets: Downtown

Who cares what size it is anyway? Only I, and now all of you, actually know what size it is. Whose to say it isn’t supposed to be one of those big, giant, sloppy cool sweaters?

I like it. I think it looks good. I got a steal of a deal on it. HEY TAG, I CAN’T SEE YOU! NEENER NEENER NEENER.

And that concludes the toddler hour here on Momma Go Round ;)

Re-work It!

Possibly the biggest thing I’ve learned on this whole style journey of mine is how to re-work.

I’ve always been an “outfit” person. I didn’t buy something unless I had a specific outfit planned for it. I would only wear things in one, maybe two ways. It always left me feeling really bored with my closet, and constantly wishing I had something else.

Dress: Anthropologie, Undershirt: Shade Clothing, Sweater: Old Navy, Ring: Charming Charlie, Shoes: c/o Nordstrom Rack

Don’t get me wrong, I still l.o.v.e. getting new pieces, but I don’t find myself constantly wishing I had new things anymore. When I get bored with what I have, that’s just a challenge to get in there and mix it up!

I’ve also learned how important accessories are. Just by swapping a few accessories, you have a whole new outfit! I know, a major revelation in the fashion world….but a revelation to me :)

Real Momma, Real Style #32

A hint, just a hint, of Fall has finally decided to show up. It’s gloriously overcast in the morning (so LJ sleeps later! Can I get an AMEN?!), the temps are in the 70s instead of the 80s and 90s, and I can finally convince myself that I won’t sweat to death in some of my Fall gear.

Shirt: Thrifted, Leggings: Target, Belt: Jessica Simpson, Boots: Comfortview, Necklace: Gift

Since I was DYING to wear my new extended shaft “I’m a little too in love with you” boots, I went bold and just wore leggings. Yes, yes, I agree, leggings are not pants! But this shirt is so long, the boots are so high, and I was crawling in and out of a jumpy with LJ. That day, leggings were pants.

Whether or not I will be wearing them as pants again remains to be seen.

Pleated Fabric Bracelet {Tutorial}

Lately, I’ve seen fabric bracelets everywhere! Charming Charlie, Forever 21, Target…they all have them.

Don’t get me wrong, I {pink puffy heart} these stores for their cheap accessories, but fabric wrapped around a piece of plastic? I’m not paying you $8-12 for one. Nice try.

So I took matters into my own hands and made this little cutie :)

$1 clearance bracelet + fabric scraps = one killer accessory!

SUPPLIES: bracelet, fabric, fabric glue, scissors, tape measure (optional: spray adhesive)

Measure both the width and circumfrence of the bracelet.

Cut a strip of fabric 1/2 wider and at least 2x as long as the circumfrence of the bracelet. The longer the strip, the more pleats you will have.

Glue down a folded edge on both short sides and one long side. You can leave the other long edge un-hemmed.

Fold pleats along the length of the fabric. Adjust pleats until your strip is 1/2 inch longer than the circumfrence of your bracelet.

Glue down the underside of the pleats.

Using either fabric glue or spray adhesive, wrap fabric around the bracelet.

**My fabric was rather thin, so I used spray adhesive so the glue wouldn’t show through too much**

Tuck in the un-hemmed egde of the fabric to the inside of the bracelet.

Tuck the hemmed edge in over the un-hemmed, and glue down.

Stack with your favorite bangles and rock your new look! There are so many options, I can’t wait to make some more!

It’s All About The Hair

There is nothing amazing, remarkable, or surprising about this outfit.

It was Mommy and Me preschool day, so I had to go with something suitable. Good thing….it was fingerpaint day. Though my OCD child who hates getting his hands dirty didn’t touch it.

The real highlight of the outfit was the hair! I found this amazing video tutorial a few weeks ago on Pintrest, and have been dying to try it ever since!

I did it the night before, and let me tell you, I was Hotty Mc Hottypants to go to bed with. But we have to be out the door early for preschool… it takes drastic measures to make it there on time.

Even though I was certainly a sight to behold at night, the curls were amazing the next day! Let me tell you, my hair DOES.NOT.HOLD.A.CURL.PERIOD. But with this method, it does! These pictures weren’t taken until 6:00, after a day of preschool, laundry, errands, and car washing, and they still looked great!

Shirt: Old Navy, Jeans: Banana Republic, Scarf: Charlotte Russe, Flats: Guess, Fabric Bracelet: Made by me, tutorial to follow, Metal Bracelets: Nordstrom/Downtown

Sometimes, it’s not the outfit that makes the outfit :)

Close To My Heart {Lisa Leonard Giveaway} CLOSED

I don’t think I ever truly understood what love is.

Love is not fancy dinners, surprise vacations, or expensive gifts. Those things are nice, those things are fun, but they are not love.

Holding my hair back when the pickles-french-toast-chocolate-milkshake dinner took revenge on my 5 month pregnant body. Endless backrubs, even when I don’t ask. A little boy asking for snuggles every morning and after every nap.

Hubs and LJ watching the fireworks at Disneyland

My boys….now that’s love.

While I can’t keep them with me all the time, I can keep them close to my heart at all times thanks to Lisa Leonard Designs and my new “My Heart” Necklace.

I met Lisa last March at Bloggy Boot Camp, and I can’t express how sweet and genuine she is. She had no idea who I was, or what my blog was, but that didn’t matter. She sat and talked to me like we were old friends. It didn’t take long to see how beautiful her heart is.

Looking at all her beautiful pieces, you can see her heart shine through them all.

Now Lisa would like to share her beautiful pieces with you!
