Pretty Little Flower

In an effort to not sweat to death this summer, I’m embracing skirts. I’m usually that weirdo who is still wearing jeans on the hottest day in July. We all know my general dis-taste for shorts, so skirts it is!

Skirt: Banana Republic, Tee/Tank/Sandals: Old Navy, Flower: From Downeast Basics Necklace, Necklace: F21, Ring: Downtown

I’ve had this skirt hanging around my closet for probably 6 or so years. So glad I’m embracing the high waisted skirt look :) I’m still not sure how to pair it up well, so I tend to stick to really simple tops. I liked the bright tank over the tee, but it was still really simple.

Even with the necklace, it was still too plain.

It’s amazing what a pretty little flower can do!

Maybe A Little TOO Proud

Dear Sewing Machine,

I know you have been so sad, lonely, and dusty sitting in the corner by yourself. I know I’ve promised you time and time again that I would let you play. I could feel your pain as you longingly gazed upon the beautiful projects that Cori and Kayla have made lately. I have heard your heartbreak. So this past weekend, when we decided on a whim to not just get a new couch, but re-do the living room and bedroom, I vowed that you would sit dusty no more!

Off to JoAnn’s I went, in search of the perfect fabrics to welcome you back with….well, it’s JoAnn, the odds of that happening were slim, but there was hope! Lo and behold, I found them! Two perfect fabrics screaming for you to work your magic with. While many projects await us my friend, I thought it was best to start off small. While you are a pro, I however, am not :(

Coasters. Yes, I said it, coasters.  Before we dive into harder projects, and you proceed to hate me forever for my lack of skills, I thought coasters was a perfect place to start. The living room needs some color, some vibrance, and of course, some cute little birdies (sssshhhh, yes Hubs, as you so conveniently pointed out, I hate birds. But these sweet little Disneyized birds needed a home!).

While my work was not perfect, you put up with me quite well. You are even a CHAMP and put up with me buying the wrong bobbins, but using them anyways. Way to take one for the team!

Thank you sewing machine. I LOVE my new coasters and all the joy they will bring me each day at nap time. I promise to not leave you in the corner for too long anymore!

HUGS!

The Ultimate Scary Outfit

I’ll be honest, there are still things that scare the bejeebees out of me in the fashion world. Neon, shorts, big prints….and tucking in. Yes, yes, I’ve tucked my top in plenty of times now, but I’ve always kinda faked it.

I hid it with a sweater.

Covered it up with a flowy skirt.

 Or BOTH!

Time to pony up and go all out. And just for added punishement, let’s throw in a white button up, just for fun ;)

Button Up: Gap, Jeans: Banana Republic, Tank: Costco, Hat: Charming Charlie, Necklace: JCP, Belt: F21, Ring: Downtown, Sandals: Old Navy

While it’s still not my most favorite look, I’m really glad I just went for it. The c-section pooch sticks out a bit too much for me, but conquering my ridiculous fear was totally worth feeling stupid for a day.

Speaking of stupid…I took these right outside my front door. In the middle of the day. In an apartment complex. With a tripod. And remote. And baby monitor.

Can’t say I didn’t go all out!

Real Momma, Real Style #19

Ever have those weekends where you are just running, and running, and running? This was one of those, but it was super fun!

Tank/Pants/ Sandals: Old Navy, Sweater: Gap Outlet, Undershirt: Downeast Basics, Bracelets: Downtown

It all started out Friday night with the “we knew it was coming, but not right then” surprise delivery of our new TV from hubby’s work. An awesome thank you for giving up the week he was supposed to have off at the holidays. As if that wasn’t fun enough, it was shortly followed up with the delivery of our new couch! Ahhhh, six years of POC couch are in the books :)

So with all these crazy deliveries, we needed to add more chaos to the house with Saturday shopping day. Ikea, Target, and Bed Bath, and Beyond. 1 TV wall mount, 2 end tables, 8 pillows, and 1 throw blanket later we are almost done with re-design of our living room and bedroom. YEAH!

And just for giggles, we threw in taking LJ to see Cars 2 with BOTH sets of grandparents. LJ is one lucky, and loved kid!

Whew…it was a blast, but I’m tired just looking at it.

Hope you all had a great weekend too!

P.S. Check back later today on my Facebook page for the Pintrest invite winners!

Everything Old Is New Again

The journey continues in my never ending battle against my closet. I WILL make it work. I WILL make it look good. And I WILL not go down without a fight.

This shirt definately put up a good fight. A two year long, sitting in the corner dirty, I refuse to pay to take you to the dry cleaners fight. TWO YEARS people!

Top: INC, Jeans: Banana Republic, Necklace: ???, Flats: Guess via Macy’s, Ring: Charming Charlie

I finally looked at the tag and realized there was really no reason why this top couldn’t be hand washed. What’s the worst that would happen? I ruin it and I don’t wear it for another 2 years? Yeah…in the sink it went.

The top turned out great! The hair….not so much. Tried a new product and aparently didn’t use nearly enough. It was just a messy frizz ball by noon. BLEH!

Oh, and I TOTALLY FOOLED both Ashley and my SIL into thinking this was a blouse and cardigan. HAHA, gotcha :P

I swear I’m still 5.

Fun For All

As I’ve been walking along this journey of self discovery and acceptance, a mission has become clear. Make the next generation better.

I don’t mean more fashionable. I don’t mean prettier.

I mean more loving.

More loving to themselves. More loving to others.

More aware of how they feel. More aware of how others feel.

I have this amazing opportunity to help shape the next generation with LJ. I can teach him about many of the things I struggle with, and hope that he ends up more accepting than I am. I can teach him about many of the things others struggle with, and hope that he will be more loving than I am.

And it all started with a trip to the park.

Well….not just ANY park.

We went to this wonderful park designed for kids of ALL ability levels. There was tons of equiptment for LJ to play with.

And there was lots of equiptment for children with different needs to play with.

It was all there, together, in one park. Everyone can come, everyone can play, everyone CAN do something.

I thought it was so important to teach LJ that while we are all different, we are all the same. Just because we can do different things than someone else doesn’t make us any better, just different. Like Mrs. Sparklenose (Abby’s Flying Fairy School Teacher) says, “sometimes it’s the things that make us different, that make the difference.”

Besides, what kid doesn’t love the park?

Simple Stripes

Summer has finally decided to show up in LA!  Since shorts and I have a hate/hate relationship, it’s time to bust out the dresses!

Dress: Gap, Tee/Sandals: Old Navy, Necklaces: F21/JCrew, Bracelets: Nordstrom/Downtown, Ring: Little Miss Momma

As I was enjoying one of my fav magazines the other day (People Style Watch!), I saw that I’m apparently cooler than I realized and had already bought a dress that’s right on trend!

I’m going to call it dumb luck cause let’s be real, I’m a total closet nerd.

Ah…the perfect outfit for a day at the pool with LJ and Baby W, moving furniture so our carpet could get cleaned, dinner with the girls, and a late night trip to Target :)

Inspiration Is All Around {Pintrest Giveaway}

It is sooooo easy to fall into a fashion rut. I can feel one coming on. All the brilliant ideas for mixing and matching have either been forgotten or I’ve already done them.

Time for some inspiration!

I found this awesome idea weeks ago on the Loft website. I quickly added it to my Pintrest “Looks To Try” board cause I just never would have thought of this combo.

I always get too stuck in matching colors. The grey zebra stripes instinctually make me think of grey, black, or silver. Brown…no way!

I really love the idea of the muted zebra with the bright skirt. I’m so boring and have always paired this top with jeans or black. Lame.

I’m so glad I saved this look to go back to on a rut day! I HIGHLY recommend you do the same.

What? No Pintrest account?

Currently, Pintrest is available by invite only. And looky who has invites!!!

Leave me a comment saying what you would use Pintrest for, and your email, and I’ll pick 6 lucky winners to get invites!

Winners will be chosen Friday, 6/24 at 10pm PST.

Purple Puff!

….and that was a quick fall from grace. Fresh off the heels of my best photoshoot ever, I proudly present THE WORST photoshoot I’ve ever done (and actually shared).

Dress: Burlington, Shirt: Old Navy, Shoes: Target, Belt: Jessica Simpson

See, once upon a time I thought I could pull off a flowy, rather pleated dress, by cinching it in with a belt. Miranda Kerr looks adorable!

source

I, on the other hand, required 350 ish pictures to get 3 decent ones. Think I’m joking?

Mind you, many of the bloopers were due to incorrect camera settings, but the other 297 were due to poor posing resulting in a GIGANTIC pleated butt.

It’s a good thing this dress doubles as a skirt, cause that’s where it might be banished to. Either that or I’ll be investing heavily in Spanx.
