The Modern Momma’s Guide to Fashion {Part III}

***Thanks to Blogger’s AWESOME random shut down for the past two days, we’re only 3 or 4 posts behind on Fashion Week. So instead of overwhelming you (and me) by trying to cram them all in…I’m extending fashion week into next week! Here’s just one of the posts that was supposed to go up yesterday…enjoy!***

Can I just say that I am SO EXCITED!!! I’ve gotten emails from quite a few of you saying you’ve tried new things or have added some of the key pieces to your “to-get” list! YEAH! I can’t wait to see your looks on this weekend’s New Style Link Up!

So without further ado, I present Part III of The Modern Momma’s Guide to Fashion!
11. Skinny Jeans
BEFORE you start yelling at the screen, “girl, you are out of your mind if you think this behind is getting into anything named skinny or legging!”….hear me out.
Never, ever, in a bajillion years did I think I would wear them either….but now they are some of my favorite jeans. The stretch holds you in while showing off your curves. It takes some a lot of time to try on a bunch to find the right pair, but when you do…magic!
12. Belts
Another key wardrobe piece I avoided like the plague, and now wonder what the heck was wrong with me??? Nothing gives an instant slimming effect like a belt. Wrapped around a cardigan, tunic, flowy dress…beautiful!
The key for those of us with a bit more shape is to wear the belt at your natural waist. On most shapes, your natural waist is much higher than where you where your pants and is often your skinniest point. Perfect for highlighting!

13. Embellished Tees/Tanks
Ruffles, sequins, beading, rosettes, ribbon, lace, whatever. Tees and tanks with some embellishment are a great transitional piece. They can be worn on their own or with a cardigan for a casual look. Layer under a blazer or dress for a more dressed up look. The best part is, these are easy to make on your own! Check out my tutorials for some of my favorites.
14. Fun Flats
Without a doubt, a momma’s can’t live without. Running around everyday is not exactly conducive to wearing your cutest wedges or awesome black heels. But instead of wearing your running shoes or the same converse you’ve had since high school, grab some fun flats. They are a great way to bring some color or pattern into your outfit.
15. Maxi Dress
I, I’m Nina, I’m 5’2″, and I’m a maxi-aholic.
It can be so hard to rock skirts and dresses as a momma without risking too much exposure. Maxi dresses solve that! Light and airy for spring/summer, easily layered with a cardigan, blazer, or jacket, an all-in-one outfit for the busy momma.
There you have it! My top 15 must-haves for the modern momma. I can’t wait to share with you how to mix and match these staples to create an awesome momma wardrobe!

Beautiful Imperfection {I Believe In Unicorns}

Today I am beyond excited to have the beautiful and super stylish Ashley from i believe in unicorns!
I will admit that I was a terrible blogger and stalked Ashley for months without ever saying hi {hangs head in shame}. Luckily she forgave me and came to share her amazing style and how perfect imperfection can be!
Hello Beautiful Readers!
I’m so lucky to be guest posting for the wonderfully fashionable Nina!
My name is Ashley and I have a little blog called i believe in unicorns. where I write about life, love, marriage, fashion, and even unicorns sometimes…I’d love to hear from you over at the blog!
In Idaho, I used to live right next to a lumber yard.
Everyday, going in and out of town, I was thrilled by it.
I loved the textures, the lines, the colors, and the shapes each log provided; and I especially loved the masterpiece they created together.
Aren’t the beautiful in all their imperfect glory?
I find myself being turned off by perfection–I prefer interest.
After dreaming about it for months, I finally got up the courage to ask if I could take pictures in their workyard, and wouldn’t you know it–they said yes!
The lighting wasn’t ideal, but it also wasn’t raining or snowing, so we took what we could get.
I’m so happy we worked this shoot in on one of our very last days in Rexburg.
The Breakdown:
Maroon Dress: Vintage $19ish
Leopard Belt: Forever21 $3
Trouser socks: Macy’s $2
Leather Heels: Rocket Dog $60ish

Ashley, you are a GENIUS! It is so easy for many of us to get wrapped up in everything needing to be “perfect”. Thank you for reminding us that beauty comes from being unique and different, not cookie cutter copies of each other.

Take it from Ashley and go try a look that you think might not be perfectly polished. Or take pictures somewhere that has a different beauty. Dare to be imperfect!

Head over to i believe in unicorns to check out all of Ashley’s amazing looks. They will seriously get your wheels turning :)
