Chevron Cork Board

There is one thing in this world that without fail always make my heart skip a beat….chevron. I just love it. The simplicity. The repetition. The graphic design.

Yet {tears} for me, I have had none to call my own, until now!

 Do you die????

Materials
Frame
Cork Roll
Chevron Stencil (from Your Memories Captured)
Paint
Sponge Brush
Pen/Pencil
Scissors
Paint your frame (optional) and allow to dry.
Trace the glass from your frame on the cork.
Cut out cork in the size of your frame.
Paint your cork using the chevron stencil. DAB, don’t brush. You know you’re doing it right if your fingers look like a hot mess afterward.
That’s all there is to it!
I thought it was super cute to use a lone ranger earring as a push pin. Way cuter than the office supply store junk ;)

Did I Do It Again….YEAH, I Did :)

So I’ll be the first to admit that my first attempt at leggings was slightly weak sauce. I’m not about to let my whole booty hang out, but I totally could have gotten away without the leggings and still been modest.

Then came along Karri from Living Out Loud and her insanely adorable legging inclusive outfits this week.

Frankly, Karri would be just out of control adorable in a potato sack, but that’s a different conversation. She showed me that I don’t have to just wear a regular knee length dress or tunic with my leggings. I can have a hemline somewhere in the middle and look awesome!
For modesty’s sake, I just flat out don’t wear anything that’s not to the knee. We don’t need to ruin anyone’s appetite for cottage cheese permanently, ok?
So when my friend got this dress from our Old Navy spring dress sample, I was super jealous cause it wasn’t long enough on me. Thanks LJ, I REALLY love these new ginormo hips ;)   And then I saw Kerri….and realized that I might be able to rock this. So my black leggings and I went on a field trip to ON and tried the dress on again, and fell in love.
The pretty beading at the neck and the mandatory waistline did it for me.

This was the perfect outfit for my busy day. Hanging out with LJ and Baby W in the morning, more chillin’ with the LMM crew in the afternoon, and a walk to pick up dinner and yogurt in the evening. Totally kid approved!

Doesn’t everyone take pictures on the side of the Fidelity offices?

I Spy With My Little Eye

We all know how I LOVE my Little Miss Momma…..but I might love shoes and jewelry just as much! No matter what level of “fat day” you are having, shoes and jewelry always fit (unless you get to Shrek levels of awesomeness while pregnant like me).

Being two of my favorite things in the world, I just had to show off my collection with this week’s I Spy: Shoes and Jewelry Edition with LMM.

I spy the shoes of a little family just beginning their journey.
I spy the worn out flats of a momma on the run.
I spy the only shoes left from a life before mommahood.
I spy the shoes of two best friends a little too in sync :)
I spy the necklaces of a crafty momma trying to save a buck!
I spy well loved, over-worn toys bracelets.
I spy a ring for two kids who fell in love.
I’m linking up to the Little Miss Momma I Spy party.
What do YOU spy?

A Vintage Quandary

I guess it’s a good problem to have, but it’s a problem none the less. My Grammy gave me a huge bag full of awesome, amazing, totally stunning vintage napkins to craft away with!

And they’ve been sitting in that bag for months :(

Some of them have the most beautiful crochet and embroidered trim.
Others have adorable flowers with perfect scalloped edges.
I just have no clue what to do with them! I would hate to cut up these beauties for a craft that I don’t just love.
Got any brilliant ideas for me?

It Doesn’t Get More {Real Momma} Shoot Than This

Ever since I got my killer fedora, I’ve been dying to rock it. I finally figured out my outfit, set up my camera in my living room….and.got.garbage.

BOOOOO!!!

Bad pictures aren’t gonna get this momma down. So off to LMM’s to try this shoot again!

Hat: Charming Charlie. Tank, Shirt: Old Navy. Black Jeans: Gap, Necklace: F21, Shoes: Bass
They were going bonkers….it was time to get outside. So we strapped the kids’ shoes on and headed out for an adventure walk.
In true LJ form, he had to get in on the action.
So of course Baby W thought it would be the best idea ever to join LJ and start throwing pinecones. DUH mommas…don’t you get it?!
Instead of fighting it, we rolled with it. This is about real momma style…does it get anymore real than the munchkins crashing the photo shoot?
And then we got smart and moved to the playground.

Celtic Knot Necklace {Tutorial}

I’m totally on a necklace kick. Now that I’ve decided to actually accessorize rather than just slap something on, I realized that my jewelry collection leaves something to be desired.

And as much as I love me some Charming Charlie, I can’t afford to buy all the lovelies they have. Especially since I’m on a nautical kick right now, I figured it would easily lend itself to a killer creative piece!

Celtic Knot Necklace
Materials

Cotton rope/cord
Jewelry chain link
Scissors
Matching Thread
Needle

Cut a looooooong piece of rope. Err on the side of ridiculously long rather than too short. How tightly you tie your knot and how long your chain is will determine how much rope you need, so there’s no real measurement.

Tie your Celtic Triangle knot in the middle of your length of rope. I highly recommend watching the video a time or two before trying it.

I promise this is not as hard as it looks!

Feed the ends of the rope through your chain. The ends of the chain should be at each side of the knot so the top does not need to be connected.

There you have it! A little tough, a little sweet, and a whole lot of awesomeness!

Tie rope together at top when they meet. I burned the edges of mine to prevent fraying while finishing it off, but totally not necessary.

Put a few stiches through the knot to secure it.
Pinch ends together and secure with a few stitches.

Wrap thread around the ends and snip ends.
A little tough. A little sweet. 100% nautical awesomeness!

Real Momma, Real Style #11

For too many years, these killer shoes have been hiding in the back of my closet. These babies were made to shine!

Fast forward to Friday night and I spend more than a little too much time trying on every skirt-cardigan-blouse combo I can come up with to find the perfect outfit to show of the killer shoes at my SIL’s baby shower.

Black tank, cardigan, skirt: Old Navy. Belt: Target. Shoes: Seychelles via Nordstrom Rack. Bracelets: Nordstrom. Ring: Little Miss Momma

I couldn’t be HAPPIER with how it turned out! Not only is this more color than I think I’ve ever worn at one time, but it’s more pattern and interest than I thought I knew how to work with!

The outfit was the perfect springy look to celebrate my new nephew on the way!

Party Rules:
-Please link up to a specific post, not just your blog main page.

-Please add the Real Momma, Real Style button to your post, sidebar, links page, just somewhere.
-You DON’T have to be a momma to link up! I want to see what EVERYONE is rockin’!
-Go visit someone! We all need some love :)

Killer Closet Find

In my quest to actually utilize my closet to it’s fullest potential, I decided to do a little digging. There’s a lot, in a lot of sizes, burried in there that I know I’ve forgotten about.

Today I went digging through my shoes to see what I have. For the most part, I know. After LJ my foot grew a half size, so almost everything from before was toast :(

Except for these bad boys!!!

It was love at first sight one fateful day in Nordstrom Rack. But ever since I bought them, I’ve always had a tough time finding an outfit for them. I’m hoping now that I’m a little more adventurous I can work them in.

Maybe they can make their grand debut back in my wardrobe for my SIL’s baby shower on Saturday…..maybe.

Go Green Ballard Inspired Vase

Today is Earth Day, and I can’t think of a better way to honor our planet than by making it more beautiful. And by more beautiful, I mean a trash to treasure Ballard knock off.

I just LOVE their Demijohns

 via
But they are A) too big for my tiny apartment and B) a small fortune. Time to get Earth friendly creative people!

Supplies
recycled mason jar
jute rope
hot glue gun
scissors

Cut a looooooong piece of jute rope and attach to jar with a dot of hot glue. Don’t worry if it doesn’t end up being long enough for your jar. You can hot glue two ends together.
Wrap the rope around your jar twice.

On the third time around, loop the rope from top to bottom through your previous two wraps. Continue this pattern for as much of the jar as you would like wrapped.

When finished wrapping, loop jute through one extra time, snip end, and adhere with a small dot of hot glue.

It really is that simple! I love my new vase and think I will use it to hold kitchen utensils. Everyone needs a pretty kitchen!

I’m linking this project up to Today’s Creative Blog!
