Real Momma, Real Style #3

Hey there HOT mommas! Hope everyone had a stylish week.

In a rare turn of events, SoCal got COLD this week. Like snowing in Burbank cold.

So my normal church attire of a skirt, top, and maybe a sweater just wasn’t going to cut it. Time for this sun goodess to figure out some winter clothes.

Sundress, meet blazer and tights.
Normally I’m super lame when it comes to cold weather church clothes. Skirt, button up, sweater over….done. Predictable and bor-ing.

The dress could have used a good run under the iron, but as usual we were running late….and pictures were more important.

I have to say, I’m pretty impressed with myself. I actually liked this idea, though I might try it with a different dress next time.

So, what hotness did you rock this week?

Shamrock Dirt Cups

Dirt cups….Earth shattering, I know.

But I had this idea weeks ago and just couldn’t shake it. I’m glad I didn’t, cause they turned out super cute :)

Ingredients/Materials

Instant Pudding
Oreos
Milk
Air Heads
Toothpicks

Make pudding according to directions (add milk and whisk). Crush Oreos.

Break Air Head into thirds. Then break each third in half. Then each half in half again. You should get 3 sets of four pieces.

Mold/roll each piece into a ball.

Smush the four balls together.

Using a chopstick or toothpick, push a small indentation into the center of each ball.

Push toothpick into the back. It will need a good push and some Air Head pushed over it.

Assemble your dirt cups and enjoy a shamrock treat!

Remember, We’re At The Zoo

I overheard a dad saying to his son, “remember, we’re at the zoo. Let’s go see some animals.”

In my head, I laughed.

DUH, we’re at the zoo. Who would come here and NOT see the animals.

LJ had his face pressed up against the glass to see the baboons.

We loved watching the giraffes have a snack.

And LJ kept trying to make elephant noises at the elephant.

But then….

I think LJ spent more time climbing the spiderweb and sliding down the ant hill than seeing animals.

NOW I understand what that dad was saying.

But we had fun….LJ had a BLAST.

It was a beautiful day. Santa Barbara was nice too.

There Are Not Enough Tears

Meet Maddie

Tomorrow (2/23) is a big day for this beautiful 4 month old princess.

It’s her funeral.

On Thursday, Maddie was rushed to the hospital because she had stopped breathing at the babysitters. By the time her mom made it to the hospital, this sweet angel was gone.

I cannot even imagine the pain her family must be going through. The tears I’ve shed for Maddie must be nothing compared to theirs. As a momma, my heart aches like I can’t describe for this sweet family.

To show our love and support for Maddie and her family, tomorrow is Big Bow Day. Maddie loved to wear big bows and show off how cute she was. If you have a daughter, show your support by having them wear a big bow tomorrow.

Her family would love to see pictures of your princess in her big bow. You can send them to kellieshsu06@yahoo.com.

To read more, or show your support, please visit The Staats Blog.

You are in my prayers.

I think I’m Supposed To Be Too Old…

I’m pretty sure there’s a clause in the adulthood contract that stipulates that these are no longer an appropriate snack.

Nutritional Value 0, Yummy Awesomeness 1

I mean really, when you’re old enough to pack them in your kid’s lunch, shouldn’t they be excluded from yours?

Well, apparently not in MY house! I LOVE these stupid Star Wars fruit snacks! Like we have barrelled through the Costco 72 pack faster than I would like to admit.

But that’s not all my friends….oh no no no.

These little bad boys have made a resurgence in popularity in my house….or should I say a surgance since my mom never had them in her house.

And let’s not forget the staple “kid snack food” granola bars. I swear they put “mommy crack” (chocolate) in them because they KNOW at nap time I need my fix.

It’s pathetic how I keep telling myself “these are LJ’s snacks, adults don’t eat these.” Well, I guess this adult does.

Hi, my name is Nina, and I’m a kid snack-aholic.

Grab a featured button you HOT LADIES!
This week, I went for functionality! I’m kinda notorious for not paying attention to the weather and dressing horribly for the day. Hey, I live in LA, I can sorta get away with that.
So instead of wearing a “t-shirt” outfit or a “sweater” outfit, I realized I need to learn to do both. An outfit that looks good with or without the sweater.
With…aka Dooftacular Sexy Beast
Without…aka I’m trying really hard to be serious but there’s a little monster playing with my toes.
I think I rocked it! And it was pretty nice to not freeze/roast when the sun decided to play peek-a-boo.
So, what did YOU ROCK this week? Can’t wait to see!

Hope in a Box

Lately, I see them everywhere.

I usually drive by like I don’t see them.
Pretend to do something else.
Change the radio.
Go the back way into Target just to avoid sitting at the light next to them.
Just don’t make eye contact.

Normally, I’m a terribly hard-hearted person.
“Why are you sitting here day after day? Go DO something!”
It’s even more awful looking at it in writing than in my own head.
But yesterday, something was different. Something changed.
I pulled into a gas station and saw at the far end a mother and daughter. The mom was holding a sign that simply said “Down on my luck”. Nothing more was needed… somehow I understood.
Maybe it was because her daughter was with her.
Maybe it was because her daughter wasn’t any older than 5. Maybe it was because she only seemed a little older than me.
But something hit me. Something changed.
I was already planning on pulling into the McDonald’s next door to grab a “don’t fall asleep while driving” snack, but now I knew I had to. I knew that little girl needed me….I just knew.
I ordered the chicken nuggets, apples, and milk.
A toy to make her smile.
so big when I handed her that meal. It maybe the first or fifteenth one she’d gotten that day, but she was as grateful as a child could be.
Her mother looked at me with that look that only a mother can give.
Her thank you was overshawdowed by the smile on her face.

That’s all I could offer. I didn’t have any cash…and I don’t know if that would have been the right call.
I could offer a meal. Protein, fruit, and milk. The most wholesome thing I could think to get at McDonald’s. I knew for that night, she would have a good meal in her tummy and a new toy to snuggle with at night.
It makes me cry just writing this thinking about that little girl. She was so gracious and smiled

And my face was covered in tears as I pulled back onto the freeway.
For one minute. For one meal. For one night, that little girl was taken care of.
