My Favs {Top 10 of ’10}

I know, I know….another “top posts of 2010″ post. But I couldn’t resist!

I started this blog this year and it has turned into more than I ever could have expected.

I’ve found support.
I’ve found friends.
I’ve found moms just like me.
I’ve found out I’m not the only one.
I’ve found my creative side.
I’ve found my voice.
I’ve found me!

After having LJ, I felt like I lost a part of who I was when I stopped working. I finally got the job I had wanted for years, only to stop to stay home with LJ 7 months later. I LOVE that I get to stay home, but I was having a hard time with the whole definition of Nina being “mother”.

So here it is folks, my top 10 posts of the year. The ones that I am proud of, that you loved, and the ones that helped me find myself again.

10) World’s Best Dad: BSB loved this card soooo much! It was the first thing that I remember making him that truly blew him away :)

9) Candles for Chemo: I still hate that I had to ever write this post, but I’m so happy that I could use my blog to help a friend.

8) Black Friday Crash Course: I’ve always wanted to go Black Friday shopping…just never thought my first time would be with a toddler in tow. It was all worth it for the crazy deals we got!
7) Letting The Kid Be A Kid: As my good friend Mater would say, “He was happier than a tornado in a trailer park!”
6) The Challenge I Never Should Have Made: Yep, still laughing at this now.

5) Scalloped Petals T-Shirt Tutorial: I love the double layers of the petals and how similar it looks to the JCrew original. Pretty awesome if I say so myself!

4) Inspiring {Amanda Ply}: My girl Amanda is AMAZING! I’m so proud of her and promise you will love her and her music.

3) It All Came Together: LJ’s 1st birthday was the first party I’ve thrown from top to bottom. Although he’ll never remember any of it, I’ll remember every minute, detail, and effort that went into it.

2) It Was One of THOSE Nights: The days of snuggling in bed with my little man are numbered. I’m so proud that I could take a moment to enjoy it instead of being mad that I wasn’t sleeping.
1) Flutter Flower Shirt Tutorial: Still my single most popular post! This tutorial has been picked up by blogs all around the world…can you believe it? I guess Turkey, Spain, Mexico, and Germany love it too!

Thanks for hangin with me through this awesome year. I’m so grateful to have such wonderful bloggers with me!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

YOU {The Cliff Notes Version}

I’d like to start with a gigantic THANK YOU!

Thank you for being as weird, neurotic, psycho, and HONEST about your oddities as ME!

When I wrote the Nina {The Cliff Notes Version} posts, I was hoping you all wouldn’t run for the hills. I mean really, who has such a strange phobia of cotton?
Apparently Ashley from LMM, her Momma, Trisha from 3 Four and Under, Suzi Q’s hubby, and Magen!!! See BSB, I’m not weird (ok, maybe, just a bit….but so are they!)

While we’re on the subject, Brittany from Love Stitched hates the feeling of shoelaces (I now understand your shoe collection girl!), and Amanda hates the feeling of macadamia nuts on her teeth. I just hate them in general, so rock on!

Chocolate can’t even fix these babies for me!

My FAVORITE awesome oddity might just have to be from Lizzi. She shares “I talk to myself, but usually in one-word exclamations, and occasionally when I’m in the store I have to mentally tell myself to shut up.”

Um, heck yes. You rock my world!

Finally, because I hadn’t already come to the conclusion that Big Fat Mama from Cooking Up Faith and I are long lost twins, she confesses that she loves MJ too.
NO, NOT THAT MJ……THIS MJ.

Ah, my heart just melted a little :)

So thanks for being awesome, and weird, and strange, and odd….just like me. For a minute, I might possibly feel normal.

Why Did I Buy These???

You all know that I’ve been obsessing over getting riding boots. Like, been hunting for years and finally found them kinda obsessing.

Well lil’ ole me thought that I would rock the Kate Middleton look and stock up on a bunch of button ups to go with my boots.

Yeah, now could I get the body to go with these too please?

I bought a bunch of button ups. Classic, western, plaid, ruffled. I went a weeee bit overboard, but I love them.

DUMB!!!

Stupid, wasn’t thinking, I’m an idiot, dumb. Why, might you ask, am I being so hard on myself?

Meet my arch nemisis….the iron. DUM DUM DUM

I hung out with this bad boy for 40 MINUTES just to iron these two!

Don’t laugh and point too hard. I KNOW I can’t iron a button up. BSB has banned me from ironing his cause I do such a terrible job.

Nina + Iron = DEATH

Dramatic….maybe. Honest….heck yes!

Christmas….The Aftermath

Anyone else feel like a bomb went off in their house?
I luv me some Christmas…but the 26th-whenever I get to all the chaos are far from my favorite days. Yesterday I spent 5 hours tackling the insanity and my house still looks like this!
Mounds of clothes to find a home for or be returned, new MASSIVE toys that have taken over the living room, and more baked goods than one little family of 3 could possibly need.
Let’s not mention that I did 4 loads of laundry yesterday and I’m still not done!
Also, there’s a new obsession in our house. It’s black, it’s white, it has googly eyes….and LJ is OBESESSED!
He was sooooooo excited Christmas morning to see his “Ca, Ca”!
Breakfast HAD to be eaten in the car.
And of course the car had to go to Grandma and Grandpa’s all weekend. He LOVED getting pushed around by his big cousins.
While it was/is a ton of work, it has been a BLAST to see LJ truly enjoy Christmas this year. I may be digging out from the mess for a few more days, but it was worth it.
How was your Christmas? What was your kids’ favorite gift? Hope you had a great Christmas!

It’s a Christmas Miracle!

MY NEW BLOG DESIGN WORKED!!!

Trust me, I’m no blog designer, html genius or anything. After hours of slaving away trying to figure out to do what I wanted, I got it! I’d still love to put a dashed line between the body and the sidebar (anyone know how?), but I think she’s done!

Don’t forget to grab my NEW buttons over on the sidebar!

Whattya think? I would love ALL feedback so I can make the blog work best for us all :)

Cause If I See One More Christmas Post….Nina {The Cliff Notes Version Part Duex}

I got such a kick out of so many of you relating on my oddities obsessions quirks that I thought, let’s give it another go! (check out part one HERE) That, and if I read one more Christmas post I might vomit. Martha doesn’t live here…k?

Anywho!

I’m a meat and potatoes kinda gal. I’d trade just about any meal for a steak from my favorite place!

DROOL!
When I was pregnant, I looked and smelled like this from the knees down.

No, really, I’m not kidding. My girlfriends still talk about how rancid they were. Here’s to hoping the next time will be better!

My Dad’s Jewish (sorta) my Mom’s Presbyterian (sorta), and I’m LDS. Welcome to the holidays folks!

As a kid I danced in a local production of the Nutcracker every year. One year I was running to the stage and my toes got caught under the stage door as someone was running out. I did the whole number with bleeding toes. I still have the scars.

Speaking of scars…I was so excited the day my brother was born that I went running in socks on my grandparent’s wood floor. My face had a close encounter of the sewing chair kind.
I have an awesome wishbone shaped scar to always remind me of my bro!
I’m a string cheese snob. I will ONLY eat one kind. The rest taste like garbage.
I have really awesome natural nails. I get asked all the time if they’re fake.
There’s nothing better than being tightly tucked into bed.
It’s only as an adult that I’ve come to tolerate tomatoes. Raw are still the devil’s spawn, but I will eat them cooked now. Mommy WOW…I’m a big girl now!
So I’m DYING to know more about you and your awesome quirks! Leave me a comment, shoot me an email, or leave me a post on Facebook and let’s see what are the most awesome “need to knows” you guys have!

Nina {The Cliff Notes Version}

My BFF Ashley from Little Miss Momma (are you sick of hearing about her yet? NO, good!) is having a great link up!

Things You Should Know If We’re Gonna Be BFF

So, I thought I would join in the fun! Why not….didn’t you always want to know the weirdest things about me?

We’ll start ya off slow. I’m ADDICTED to chocolate. Like an unhealthy, need to eat some everyday or I might die, addiction.

(Yeah, I ate more than my fair share of the last box we had. It was gone in 3 days!)

I luv me some Michael J. Fox circa 1984. What is that? How could I luv him in the year I was born…ssshhh, hush you!

I have SERIOUS issues with cotton balls/cashemere/performance fleece. Like can’t touch, need to wipe my hands on the nearest non-yucky surface as quickly as possible, just thinking about gives me the willies.
Yup, this picture gives me the willies!
I ripped the crud out of my miniscus (knee) in high school and can’t run unless I want my knee cap hangin out where it don’t belong….convenient excuse, I know!
I am that person that sings every song in the car. I have to restrain myself when I have passengers. I can feel LJ working on “MOM, PLEASE STOP!”.
So, there you have it. The Cliff Notes version of me. Beyond interesting, I know!

I NEVER Thought I Would Think They’re Stuff Is Cute!

I don’t know how it is for you, but the JCPenny in my mall has always SUCKED!

I mean terrible, hideous, wouldn’t be caught dead in it. Though to give it credit, up until a few years ago, my mall was pretty awful. Which never made sense cause I live in a stupidly over-priced area where people (not me) have moolah.

Recently l’ve been seeing their ads in magazines and was surprised at how cute their clothes looked. I thought it must just be some great stylist doin what they do.

I LOVED this shirt! Pair it with a great black blazer and riding boots. AWESOME!
So I went in today to check it out. TEAR, nothing but a small. Not in this lifetime sista!
But I did find this little number!
Technically it’s a Christmas present from my in-laws (THANKS MOM!), so I can’t wear it until Sunday, but I had to try it on.
Mind the “taken in the mirror with my hideously messy bedroom in the background” photo. The kid’s napping and I’m on my own!
Truly, I’m beyond impressed with the quality, the fit, and just how dang cute it was. Not to mention it was over 1/2 off! A $65 sweater for $29.99….saweet!
Who woulda thought?

It’s A Small, Small Bloggy World

You always here crazy stories about people running into other people they know half way around the world. Or meeting someone and finding out you are related or something.

I had the most RANDOM night the other night. I was checking my email for the bajillionth time and a super sweet comment from someone named Meredith popped up. It was just so nice that I had to check out her blog.

As I’m poking around I see all these awesomely quirky pictures of an adorable girl (with a body I’d kill for, and she has a kiddo….not fair!) rockin’ some sweet outfits.

The more and more I’m checkin out her blog, the more I’m realizing “I know that place! Could it possibly be the apartment complex I lived right next to for years?”.
I pull a totally non-Nina move…attempt to not sound like a crazy stalker, and ask her.
I mean really…how many 650 sq foot apartments could there be with the washer right next to the fridge and these cabinets?
I WAS RIGHT!!! Not only does Meredith live in that complex, she is friends with a ton of my friends who are still there!
YUP, small bloggy world!
You’ve GOT to go check out Meredith and all her freepiliing, thrifting genius at Yours Mine & Ours! I swear she will make you want to head to your nearest thrift store or dumpster, grab a can of spray paint, and get rockin!
