Black Friday Crash Course

I know I’ve been missing for a few days….but I have good reason.

Besides the wonderful holiday filled with good food and lots of family, I got a crash course in Black Friday Shopping.

I didn’t plan on this, it just sorta happened.

After leaving Thanksgiving dinner at 8:00 at my grandparents’ house (an hour away), I got the great idea to go to the local outlets since my BSF (best store forever) The Children’s Place was doing 50% off the WHOLE STORE! I mean really…can I pass that up?

Well, LJ was asleep in the car so BSB decided to come with me so we could tag team shop.

I did lots of pre-size shopping for LJ getting the basics he wears no matter what season.
4 pairs of jeans
4 pairs of chinos
2 pairs of cargos
3 polos
2 dress shirts
1 sweatshirt
drumroll please………
$94!!!!!
They were handing out 25% off coupons as you walked in, so I got an even crazier deal! No pants needed through 4T :)
When I got back, BSB was off in search of dress shirts, slacks, and new shoes. I, on the other hand, was about it pass out in the car, but the ANNOYING alarm kept going off in Ed Hardy every 2 minutes!
Does this look like a happy face?
Which in turn led to an awake LJ at 12:30! I HATE ED HARDY EVEN MORE NOW!!!
All hail Elmo on the iPod!
In the end, we had a car full of awesome deals and 3 very tired campers.
Cause if I hadn’t killed myself enough, I was up at 4:58 am to try and get a Cozy Coupe from Kmart (FAIL-O-POTOMAS).
But wait….there’s more!
After family pictures at the hideously early hour of 10:00 am (hey, it was hideous that day), LJ and I were off with my mom, grammy, aunt and cousin to the mall for another 5 hours.
So folks, sorry I’ve been missing. But if I ever thought shopping could kill someone, I just found out how.
Hope you had a FABULOUS Thanksgiving!

Branchin’ Out the Wardrobe Part II

This time, it gets real…

These things have scared me for-ev-er.

I’m not tall.
I’m not skinny.
My thighs touch and rub when I walk.
My calves are so muscular that boot don’t fit.

This has not been easy for me. I know it’s a lame-o thing to be bugged about, but I wish, just for once, clothes shopping was easy for me. I’m a big person in a short body. Everything is condensed making it super hard to find pants that are the right length, jackets that aren’t too long waisted, or anything with sleeves that don’t have an extra foot on them.

So ever since this skinny pants/jeans phenomenon hit, I’ve been extra screwed. It’s like when the “pants so low I can see your thong” fad hit….no pants for Nina.

Or so I thought!

This weekend was a magical weekend of child free shopping as you can see! I finally got to focus and find the right skinny jeans for me. I even got black ones too that I rocked in Vegas (but didn’t get a pic).
And look, I can even get them in my Fuggs (fake Uggs)! This is the only pair of boots I’ve EVER found that actually fit around my calves. I’m determined to find riding boots, but these will work for now!
To some it may seem lame to be so invested in a pair of pants, but some of you girls will feel me. So if you’re like me and have been avoiding trying something…..GO FOR IT!

What Happens in Vegas…

lives on forever on the blog!
This weekend I’m off to the FABULOUS Las Vegas with none other than my lil’ mommy!
The Lil’ Mommy and I in NYC seeing the Color Purple in 2007
I’m so excited to have my first girls weekend away since long before LJ was born. It’s been too long.
I can’t wait to see these…

and eat here…
and get pampered here!
Yeah, this is a spa….I didn’t believe it either!
So hang tight my blogger loves, I’ll be back shortly with all my adventures from Sin(less) City!
Have a great weekend!!!

I Know This Is Weird…..

but am I the only one who has a teeny tiny tinge of sadness about this?

Haha, I know this is beyond ridiculous, but it’s left over from my middle school crush on him that I guess still lingers just a bit.

And lets be real, I think I really want Kate more than William. I mean have you seen this girl’s wardrobe?

Don’t get me wrong. I LOVE me some BSB and LJ. I wouldn’t trade my life even for being a princess.
But am I the only nerd whose long lost fantasy just got crushed?

Pinecone and Pom Pom Berry Wreath

I LOVE wreaths!

My mom makes a super FAB one from different sized earthy/rusty colored ornaments. It’s uber chic :)

I’ve seen so many around the blogosphere lately that have just been amazing.

I LUV the Holly Jolly Wreath by Dave’s Wife from The Diary of Dave’s Wife.

The Let It Snow Wreath by Elizabeth from Twelve Crafts Till Chirstmas is awesome! I’m totally diggin the pleated look and how easy and inexpensive it is to make!
And then there’s ribbons gone awesomely wild on Stacy’s wreath from She’s {kinda} Crafty.

Do you not die over those adorable little doves hidden inside?

So, after getting inspired by these gems (and a little help from Martha), I took a stab at my own wreath for the Thanksgiving season.

Pinecone and PomPom Berry Wreath

Materials
grapevine wreath
jute rope
pom poms (use varying sizes)
Rit Die (I used tangerine, wine and scarlet)
mini pinecones
scissors
hot glue
Soak pom poms in HOT die bath for at least 5 minutes. The longer they are in there, the stronger the color will be.
Remove pom poms from die and allow to dry on paper towels for at least 24 hours.
Wrap jute around top of wreath to create a base.
Cut three long lengths of jute and braid them. Make braid long enough to loop twice to become hanger. Knot at the ends.
Attach braided knot with hot glue to the back of the wreath.
Adhere pinecones and pom poms with hot glue. Use a teeny dot on the pom poms.

That’s all there is to it! I ended up using about 350 pom poms, so don’t expect to whip this out in an hour. It takes some time, but I think it really looks amazing!

It’s The Little Things That Make My Day :)

Let’s be real….life totally feel like a Merry (Momma) Go Round sometimes.

The same thing over
                        and over
                                           and over again.

But then, out of the blue, something little happens that makes you realize that what you do DOES matter.

Today, one of those little miracles happened to ME!

Now you may be looking at this picture going “ok Nina, what was slipped into your brownies that makes you think this is a miracle?”

Well folks, this is proof, evidence, hard fact that I am actually getting through to my child!

I was sitting at my computer checking my email when I asked LJ ONCE, ONLY ONCE to go get his towel. His towel hangs in his room (since you can see I have the smallest bathroom in the world) and we’ve been working on him getting it when it’s bath time.

I came around the corner fully expecting him to be ignoring me as usual, but instead I found this adorable little face ready for his bath.

Yes friends, this was one of the proudest moments I’ve had with him. He listened, he really listened!

And when he saw how happy I was, he was proud too!

Rustic Thanksgiving Accents

As I’ve mentioned before, I have ZERO budget for holiday decor this year.

This makes me a little sad cause I want to make this year extra awesome since LJ might get what is going on.

But this does mean that it’s time to get extra crafty!

I made these awesome decor pieces (what else do you call them?) with just a few super cheap materials that I’m using for another project too! I know, I know, I’m so thrifty ;)
MATERIALS
mini pinecones
fabric leaves
jute rope
hot glue gun
scissors
Cut a length of jute.
I measured around my candle and added a few inches for tying.
Wrap jute around pinecone twice, centering the pinecone on the rope.
Secure with hot glue on the backside.
Add a dot of hot glue to fabric leaf.
Attach pinecone on an angle.

As luck would have it, these also fit perfectly around my napkins! I’m so excited to have a beautiful and thrifty way to decorate for Thanksgiving!
