Friday Family Focus: Role Models

As LJ gets older, I’m noticing more and more that he is copying whatever we do.

He holds objects up to his ear and talks on them like a phone (with the same head tilt that I do).

He lifts up his arms and shrugs like I do when I’m saying “what?”.

He loves to touch our computers and “work” like we do.

He tinkers and builds like Daddy does.

I’m becoming very aware that I must watch what I do and be very careful to only teach him good things (yeah, I’m sure I’ll be 100% on that one!).

But what about everyone else? How can I control what he picks up from others? I can’t….and that scares me. But I am so grateful that he is surrounded by great role models that he is already picking things up from.

Every Sunday, BSB and I teach the 10 year old Sunday School class at church. LJ is a HUGE hit (sometimes too much of one) and the kids just love him…..and he loves them! This past Sunday, I was so impressed when he wanted to sit up on the chairs and listen to the lesson Daddy was teaching just like the big kids.

While it didn’t last long, at that moment I was so grateful that LJ has others who can be great role models for him. He is already picking up how to listen, how to learn, and how to behave in class.
We are ALL one big family, and we ALL must watch out for each other, protect each other, and guide each other. How great that LJ has class of six 10 year olds who love to teach and guide him!
