To Sew or Not to Sew…

For a long time I have resisted sewing. It’s not that I don’t like it or don’t want to, it’s that I STINK!

Really, I’m terrible.

My Grammy taught me the same few things over and over again as a kid. I lost count of how many really terrible doll clothes or attempts at making myself a skirt I totally jacked up. Bless her for her patience, and being willing to sew the SEVEN bridesmaids and SIX flower girl dresses I needed. She must really love me a lot, cause as much as I tried to help, let’s be real, she did it all.

(grrrr, I’m still rather bitter about my aweful pictures, but that is a story for another day)
I have come to realize that I can no longer find work arounds to my sewing dilemma. I think I have found/invented every way to make projects “no sew” (No Sew Pacifier Clip). Sometimes they work, sometimes they fail, hard.
So here I am

and I’m getting a sewing machine.

It’s time. It’s time to be a big girl in the crafting world and learn how to sew instead of glue.

Here’s where you come in…..what do I buy? I have been eyeing the Brother CE4000 from Costco with 77 computerized stitch functions .

What do you think? What do you have and would you recommend it? While I have used a sewing machine before, remember….I stink. Truly.

Momma the Bargain Hunter

So you all know my love affair with getting a good deal! (Gold Star and Love Affair)

But today was a day like NO OTHER!

I swear, the deals just kept falling into my lap. It was meant to be.

It started with the hunt for new brown sandals. Mine have been glued back together (yup, I’m admitting it. Mighty Mend It works) at least three times. Since everywhere is getting geared up for Back to School (it’s July people, hold your horses!) I figured I might be able to find a good deal.

While I was looking for something with a little more excitement, you can’t argue with $13.25!!! Seriously. I’m kinda picky about my shoes and can’t ususally go with the adorable, yet cheaper ones at Target since my feet are too wide, so these were a steal…but the best was still coming.

Next came Toys R Us. I get their email coupons and saw one for a pop up play tent/tunnel at 30% off. So we stopped by to get one. I was a little bummed when I found out that the original price was $59.99, cause even with the 30% off, it was still more than I wanted to spend. But, in the bag I brought a return in with, I had a 20% off any item coupon!

$33.59!!!!!
That’s right folks, almost 1/2 off for this awesome pop up playland! This is perfect since our apartment is rather small, so I can just fold it up when LJ is done :)
But wait, there’s more!
OLD NAVY BABY!
I swear, as much as LJ’s wardrobe is from Children’s Place, mine and BSB’s wardrobes are from Old Navy. We ordered a bunch of stuff online a few weeks ago, and some of it needed to go back. So we stopped in and I noticed the most wonderful sign…..50% off ALL CLEARANCE
Drum roll please………
$9.70!!!!!
Seriously too good to be true! The designed shirt was $1.98 (I already have this shirt, but it got a hole in it, so I was super happy to find such a cheap replacement!), the pink shirt was $2.49, and the JEANS were only $4.49! I swear I just bought these jeans 2 weeks ago for $16 and thought that was a deal!
We are trying really hard to save money and I’m just so proud of the finds I got. The play yard is being stashed for Christmas, so I’m happy that I have that done too! I grew up not being able to buy whatever I wanted, but not having to worry too much about prices. I’m so glad that I have learned to be more thrifty and find fabulous things for a fraction of the cost!
So thrift finders, what are your best secrets? Spill the deals you’ve gotten and where you find the best prices. This bargain hunter is dying to know!
