One Pretty Thing….AGAIN!

I am so insanely honored to announce that I am being featured on One Pretty Thing AGAIN!!! Not only twice, but twice in one week. Seriously, this is one of my most favorite blogs with the best ideas of fun crafts, projects, and cool stuff I don’t think I’m talented enough to do.

My 4th of July Cupcake Toppers will be in today’s Daily DIY. So please stop by, show Rachel some love, and tell her how awesome she is. She works really hard to bring us the most amazing collection of fabulousness each and every day!

Celebrate With A Bang!

Though we are going to have a rather low key 4th, I still want to make it special. So I came up with some adorable cupcake toppers!

As a special treat to my readers, I’m offering them to you for FREE! Use them in cupcakes, as decoration, or whatever other stroke of brilliance you have.

Just click HERE to download yours!

Directions:
1) Download Cupcake Toppers jpeg and print

2) Cut out toppers. If leaving them as squares, cut out entire square. If punching out (2.5 inch circle or scalloped punch), you only need one flat side.

3) If punching, center the design in the punch and squeeze/push punch.

4) Put glue dots, tape, or regular glue on toothpick, popcicle stick, or lollipop stick.

5) Attach stick to back of topper. A second side can be added.

6) Use your toppers on cupcakes, cakes, in flower pots, as decorations, or use them as decoration on napkin rings, place cards, and more!

I would love to see what you do with them! So come on back and leave a link ;)

Berry Interesting

The other day, LJ and I were invited to go pick boysenberries at my friend’s parent’s house. We JUMPED on the chance cause to know LJ is to know that he should look like this….

because all this child eats is berries.
It’s a little ridiculous. He shovels in all berries like they are going to magically disappear off his plate if he doesn’t get them all in RIGHT NOW. We have to hide the berries at meals so he eats the rest of his meal first, otherwise we’re toast.
So we happily arrive to pick our boysenberries (which we’ve done many times on a farm, pre-planned for you to easily pick). And though we had been warned, we arrived to find what felt like this…
…and the berries were at the top.
So up we went with our berry container (cause we are legit berry pickers and brought one of those cool plastic ones that you buy berries in) and a bucket and shovel for LJ to play with. It was a lovely day, the car saying it was only 68 degrees out….perfect for berry picking.
Unless you hang out with LJ.
Mr. White Boy here goes from Casper to Red Lobster in 2 seconds flat.
After just a short time on Mt. Everest he was turning bright red, sweating, had fallen into the boysenberry bush and was now scraped up. So we decended from Mt. Kilimanjaro with berries, bucket, shovel, and crying lobster boy in hand.
He was so hot when the sherpa (aka, Kristyn from Thoughts of a Little Bird) got us to the bottom that I ripped off LJ’s shirt and gave him some water. Kristyn turned on the hose so we could wash off our hands…I had a different idea.
(yes, I know it looks like I’m chokeholding my child under the water)
That helped, but the genius that I am didn’t think that I should take his jeans off before starting this little adventure. So now LJ is hot, wet, unhappy, and rockin the white trash baby look.
(diaper with socks….always attractive)
We went in the house, threw his jeans in the drier, and the poor ,overheated baby, drank two cups of water.
In the end, he LOVED getting to eat tons of berries right off the bush, had fun rolling around in the dirt, and best of all, loved playing with the tv remote once we made it in the house.
You win some….we lost this one.

Love Affair

I have a love affair going on……and it’s not with BSB.

It’s sick, I know….but I can’t help it!
99% of LJ’s wardrobe is from this magical store.
When I was pregnant I never thought I would be able to shop in any of the “kid stores” for him. I just assumed that all his clothes would come from Target, Wal-mart, maybe Old Navy, or get lucky enough to get hand-me-downs. Gap Kids, Gymboree, and all those super cute little boutiques were just simply out of the question.
When I received a few shower gifts from TCP (cause we’re on a nickname basis now), I was stunned. I know my mom’s friends can be very generous, but they had already done so much for me and now clothes from an expensive kids store. I hit the momma jackpot!
Then there was the first fateful trip to the outlet mall with LJ. He was about 3 months old (and wearing size 3-6 months, though it barely fit) and I was in desperate need of new clothes for this child.
(LJ, 6 months 3 months old)
There it was….like a shinning beacon of hope. Maybe, just maybe, I could afford to get him one or two things there. My friend who I was with kept telling me that I would love this store (which I already knew), but I had no idea why.
This is why
I LOVE that they have what I like to call “little man” clothes. Not baby clothes, not kids clothes, but little man clothes. Take what I try to dress BSB in, shrink it, and voila!
I LOVE that I never pay full price for anything in that store….never. My email always has at least a 15% off coupon in it and I’m lucky enough to live super close to an outlet…which means half the store is always on sale.
For example….I went in there the other day to pick out baby presents for BSB’s boss who is having twin girls (and they already have a 3 year old little princess!) I just was running in real quick to grab two cute little outfits for the girls…..yeah, right.
This is what I ended up with…
2 dresses
2 white frilly onsies
1 sweatshirt
3 polos
1 button up
1 t-shirt
1 pair of shorts
Grand Total: $51.74
That averages to just $4.70 per piece! I can’t even believe that! While I didn’t buy a ton of bottoms since I bought LJ the next size and with him there’s no guessing how quickly he will reach that next size, I got him all stuff that is seasonless (in CA at least!)
So it’s true, I have a love affair with TCP. I love the style, I love the quality, and I loooooove the price.
Thanks TCP for allowing me to have such a stylin’ kid.

*I am in no way being compensated by TCP for this posting….though I do accept gifts!

The Challenge I Never Should Have Made

Way back when BSB and I were dating, I unknowingly submitted a challenge to him. He would always make me laugh, make me smile, and brighten my day. But one day, some how it came up that I did not think he was the funniest person I knew.
WRONG ANSWER
For last 6 1/2 years he spends much of his time finding ways to prove me wrong. He doesn’t just make me laugh…he makes me die.
Doubled over
Legs crossed
In the middle of a parking lot/mini golf/theater, mall (insert akward situation)
Trying not to pee
Take, for instance, watching “Super Why?” with LJ.
Not exactly the most laugh out loud, hilarious show you’ve ever seen. While teaching kids to read and new words is important business, it’s rarely laugh inducing.
Unless you’re watching with BSB.
Super Why: “Can you think of a word that starts with F?”
BSB: “falafel”
Super Why: “That’s right! Flower starts with F.”
Again, while maybe not the funniest thing you’ve ever heard…the dry, monotone, “seriously answering the question” delivery had me rolling. LJ thought we were insane and interrupting his show.
It’s not always the most clever or original things that make me laugh. It’s often the timing and delivery that add the extra pee inducing kick. But he has managed to make me wish I had never challenged him.

Welcome to Momma Go Round!

I’m so excited to have my first official post on my NEW blog! I have moved everything over from Your Memories Captured, as that will no longer be my blog.

I’m happy you are here to share with me in the new direction of my blogging. Here I will be focusing more on family {dis}function, running around in circles after LJ, attempts at crafting/baking/cooking (they can be scary!), giveaways, reviews, new/fun things that I love, and everything that goes with being stuck on the “Momma Go Round”.

I hope you enjoy my new blog. I LOVE to hear from you, so leave a comment or drop me an email.

Friday Family Focus: Dinner

Family dinner in my house has been hit or miss over the last two years.
My husband has a fabulous job that we are so grateful for….but it often requires him to stay late. And I don’t mean late, I mean LATE. Like hasn’t seen LJ in days because he leaves before he’s up, gets home long after he’s in bed, and quite frankly might miss me cause I’m already in bed.

Sometimes it gets tough. Sometimes we are all stressed out. Sometimes we all are at our wits end.

Lately we have been lucky enough to have our dear Daddy home in time for dinner (or, a little bit of a late dinner). Daddy has been going in to work early, working through lunch, bringing a lunch he can eat at his desk and basically doing everything he can so he can get out of there at a decent time. And let me tell you, it has been AMAZING!

I had forgotten how wonderful family dinner could be. We sit and talk about the day, things coming up, what we want to do this weekend, yada yada yada. Who knew that yada yada yada could be so wonderful?

LJ has totally been a happier little man since he gets to see his Daddy. I’m happier because my partner in crime is back. And I think most of all, Daddy is happier because he gets to see his family instead of his office.

I know life gets busy for us all. Work, school, sports, activities, commitments, but there truly is nothing like sitting down to a family dinner. For those of you lucky enough to enjoy this regularly, count your blessings. For those of you like my family, see what you can change around to make family dinner a priority. We still aren’t perfect, and probably never will be, but it’s a great feeling to know that family dinner is now on the radar.
